With deep sadness, we announce that Joy Paxton passed away in her home on December 6, 2017, after a brief but hard-fought battle with cancer. Joy is survived by and will be dearly missed by her husband, Owen; two sons, Brandon (Brandi) and Brodie (Sam); father, Raymond Van Hullebush (Jean); her two brothers, Ken and Mark; and many loving family members and friends, for whose support we are incredibly grateful.

Joy was born June 19, 1960 in Port Alberni, BC to Raymond and Donna Van Hullebush, where she joined her brother, Ken, and was later joined by her brother, Mark. Joy attended school in Port Alberni and was married to Owen Paxton in 1984. Joy was thrilled to become a mother, giving birth to Brandon in 1987 and to Brodie in 1989. She most recently worked as an office administrator for Gas Tech Services, owned by Glen Tilley and family, with whom she became very close.

As many have noted, Joy and Owen were each other’s best friend and made countless friendships throughout the years. Golfing trips, vacations to Mexico, card nights, and backyard fires have provided many  cherished memories. She loved her family deeply and especially enjoyed spending time with the families’ little ones. Family gatherings at Qualicum Beach were among her favourites.

Joy was also a fighter and a beacon of positivity in trying times. If she could speak now, she would urge us not to mourn for her, but to honour her memory in good spirits and share the countless tales of how she touched our lives.

 A celebration of life will be held Saturday, December 16, from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at Cherry Creek Community Hall.
