Ruth Marotz (nee Kemper) died December 28, 2012. Do not mourn – she is free.
Ruth, Ruthle, Mama, Mutti, Mumsie, Omi, Tante Ruth, Aunt Ruth, Mrs. Marotz – whatever we called her, we loved her. She made our world a better place in so many ways.
Ruth was artistic, musical, smart, compassionate, generous, proud and determined. She loved laughter, opera, CBC radio and public TV, learning and stories, and of course feeding family and friends. She worked 150% at any job she took on – whether as a nursery school worker or Sears catalogue centre clerk, or putting on the smorgasbord for an extended family Advent celebration, or making a home. She was a volunteer extraordinaire.
Ruth was happiest caring for others – her beloved “Ulli”, her grandchildren, her “3 girls” and their partners; relatives and friends in B.C. and Germany; young children and aging neighbours; family pets and backyard birds; charitable causes; and her community, in Burnaby, Pender Island and Qualicum Beach.
Ruth believed – in her family, in social justice, and in her God.
Ruth loved collecting verses, and this one she left for us:
Grieve not for me,
Nor mourn the while
For happier would I be
To see you smile
Let no tears fall
Since I have passed away
But miss me and
Remember me each day
Live you your lives
As I would want you to
And treat thy fellowman
As I would do
And when the time has come,
Your lives be through
I shall be waiting here
For each of you.
To you, Ruth, we say simply: “Tschϋss”
