Sheila Van der Laan Obituary

Sheila Diana Vanderlaan nee-Lang passed away peacefully on Friday March 30, 2018 at the age of 75. Born in Perth, Scotland June 29, 1942. Sheila immigrated to Canada September 11, 1964 settling in Port Alberni where she lived till 1986. She lived in Parksville & Nanoose area till 2011, then resided with her husband Bill in Nanaimo till her passing.

Sheila gave her heart to the Lord in 1977 this was a spiritual birth (Born again Christian). She had a real experience with the Lord and was baptized on June 10, 1979.

Sheila had a love of travelling and was able to spend her last several years travelling the globe with her loving husband Bill. She loved being surrounded by her family and enjoyed being with dogs, watching the hummingbirds, singing in the choir and passionate about her Bible Study.

Sheila is survived by her loving husband, Bill. Sheila’s children, spouses and grandchildren; Evelyn (Allan), Kyle, Halle; Sonja (Gary), McKinley; Shelagh (Johnny), Layna (Chris), Corbin. Bill’s children, spouses and grandchildren; Joyce (Doug), Nick (Alex), Richard (Britt), Alicia, (Travis); Frances (Darcy), Candice (Daryl), Caylem (Aleah) and five great grandchildren.

The family extend special thanks to the nurses in the Palliative Care Unit and Hospice Society in Nanaimo for their assistance, comfort, and support during Sheila’s illness.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Sheila’s honour at 3:00 pm on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at the First Baptist Church, 1650 Waddington Road, Nanaimo, BC.

In lieu of flowers, please kindly donate to your local SPCA as Sheila had a soft spot for the animals.
