William Lennox SCOTT

July 12, 1928 ~ March 23, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old

With sadness, the family of Bill Scott announce his passing at Comox, BC on March 23rd, 2017.

Bill was born in Trail, BC.  He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Lillian Scott; brothers, Joe, Gordon, Ed, and Ray; and leaves behind his wife, Mary of 69 years whom he met while she was in grade 7.  He also leaves behind his children, Bill (Joyce), Judy (Gerald), Bob (Donna); grandchildren, Erin (Alvin), Jim (Christina), Brian (Karla), Robert, Thomas (Crystal); great grandchildren, Avery, Ella, William, Andrew, Cameron, Zander, Jordan, Riley, Teagan; brothers, Don, Dave (Carol), Doug (Penny); and many nieces and nephews.

As a toddler in a buggy with his parents and several half brothers and sisters, Bill travelled by river raft to Fort Vermilion, Alberta where he spent his early youth. The family then returned to the Vancouver area.  At a young age, Bill joined the Royal Canadian Navy as a musician and joined the Naden Band as a Trumpeter and Bugler. He was a Bugler for Princess Elizabeth on her tour to Canada in 1951. During the 1950s and 60s Bill was band master at Comox Sea Cadet Camp. He was very involved in sports and a member of the 1967 Military Champion Volleyball Team. 

Bill was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying everything and anything outside from simple gardening and yard care to hunting, fishing, and camping. After retirement, he found a new passion in golf which he enjoyed until very recently.

Never to be idle, Bill became a long-standing member of 41 years in the Odd Fellow and Rebecca Lodge, serving in many different positions including Past Grand Master, Past Grand Patriot, and Department Commander. He retired as Brig/General of the IOOF Military Branch. During his retirement, he also became involved with the Wachiay Friendship Center where he has many friends.

A Family & Friends Tea in memory of Bill will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, May 21st, 2017 at the Grantham Odd Fellows Hall, 6040 Old Island Hwy, Courtenay, BC. 

Donations in Bill’s honour can be made to the SPCA, 1668 Ryan Rd E, Comox, BC, V9M 7Z8. Flowers are gratefully declined.
