Barbara GILLIES Obituary

Barbara passed peacefully In the Palliative Unit at NRGH on Friday, March 8, 2019 - only 4 days before her 97th birthday.

She was predeceased by her only sibling, Mary Louise Gillies in 2005 and was the last of her generation of the Gillies Clan.

Barbara has a long, fulfilling career in nursing at Vancouver General Hospital, beginning in 1946 first teaching Pharmacology and Bacteriology, then as Senior Instructor of Nursing and was so loved and respect by her students that the graduating class of 1966 dedicated their Annual to her.

Barbara leaves several 2nd and 3rd cousins in Canada, the US and England.

We wish to extend a sincere Thank You to Donna Newall, her former neighbour and longtime friend, for the friendship and care she gave Barbara these last several years; and also to the Medical Staff and Hospice Volunteers on the Palliative Unit for the compassion, care and respect given to Barbara during her final journey.
