With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Jacobus, better known to his family and friends as Jack, on Monday, October 7, 2019.
Jack leaves behind to forever miss him his son, Brent (Jose) of Vancouver; daughter, Alana (Justin) of Zeballos; grandchildren, Matteo and Jackson; brother, Harry (Marjie) of Port Alberni; many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth and William Arentsen; and brothers, John and Adrian.
Jack grew up on the beloved family farm in Port Alberni with his parents and three older brothers. In 1985, Jack moved to Ucluelet with his wife to pursue a career as a butcher and raise a family. Many good times were spent in the wilderness and on the Pacific Ocean. Passionate about hunting, fishing, and the outdoors, much of Jack’s retirement was spent doing just that. Spending time with his family, going on hunting trips with friends, and guiding fishing charters in both Ucluelet and Zeballos were all things that he thoroughly enjoyed.
Jack is loved by many and cherished by his family. Memories of his smile will last in the minds of those he has met.
A Memorial Service will be held in Jack’s honour at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the Alberni Valley Christian Reformed Church, 5083 Roger Street in Port Alberni. A Celebration to honour his life will be held in Ucluelet at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Jack’s memory may do so by making a donation in his name to either the Pacific Rim Fish and Game Association or the Thornton Creek Salmon Enhancement Society.
