It is with loving memories and sadness that our family announces the passing of Janice on August 24, 2017. Janice was predeceased by her father, John, mother, Anne, stepfather, Roland Lecointe and her siblings: Beverley, Diane, Danny and Don. Janice will be dearly missed by her husband of 45 years, Terry, son, Matthew, daughter, Kristine, and her friends and colleagues.

As a wife, mother and aunt, Janice was loving, kind, humourous, understanding, strong and caring. She loved cooking, family gatherings, shopping, fitness and supporting her children’s athletics. Her family enjoyed the essential qualities a mother should possess.

Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Janice lived her life in the Lower Mainland until she and Terry retired to Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island in the fall of 2015. After graduating from Vancouver Technical School in 1968, she worked for the Bank of BC followed by the TD Bank. Janice’s career goals changed when she was hired by the Burnaby School District for the remaining three decades. She completed her B.A. in psychology at S.F.U. on a part time basis while still maintaining full time employment with the Burnaby School District and being a mother. During her final two decades in Burnaby, she helped open the Teen Parent Program at Burnaby South Secondary and continued in this position until her retirement. Throughout the program, Janice demonstrated her strong advocacy for the teen parents, as well as compassion, organization and strength under demanding circumstances. Janice retired from the Burnaby School District in 2016 and passed away in 2017 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. The world was a better place because of her presence.

The family is grateful for the exceptional care and compassion provided by Dr. Love and the nursing staff at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Also, we thank Drs. Cohen, Atwell and Holloway, as well as the Chemotherapy Program, at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the BC Cancer Foundation.
