Welcome to the memorial page for

Lavina Esther VANCE

July 6, 1918 ~ August 11, 2017 (age 99) 99 Years Old

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Lavina Vance on Friday, August 11, 2017. She is predeceased by her husband, Norman Harvey Vance; daughter, Sharon Carole Cawthorne; grandson, Kelly John Thompson; her parents, Sophia and Jacob Schindel, 2 sisters; and 5 brothers. Lavina is survived by her children, Donna Vance (Darreld Beauchamp) of Powell River, BC and Delores Beatty of Qualicum Beach, BC; grandchildren, Christy Thompson, Joy Beauchamp, Scott Beatty, and Vance Beatty; great-grandchildren, Cleo and Sieben Scott Thompson, Shentae Beatty, and Otis Beauchamp; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Born in Melville, Saskatchewan, Lavina met her future husband, Norman Vance, while at Bible School. They married in 1940 and moved to the Vance Farm near Cut Knife. After having 3 daughters, they sold the farm and joined many family members in Chilliwack, and later buying Paradise Beach Resort in Parksville. After retiring, they travelled extensively, living in Summerland for about 12 years, before returning to Parksville.

Lavina was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, with an attitude of gratefulness based on her strong faith in God. She was a kind and loving woman, giving to others with great generosity. She will be dearly missed.

The Vance family extends sincere gratitude for the kind and loving care given to Lavina while she was still at home, by the Home Support Workers and the staff at The Gardens during her life there. You are all such caring Angels. A special thanks to Marion Ditrich for her years of help and support.

At her request, a small gathering was held at The Gardens for Lavina on Tuesday, August 15, 2017.
