Our dear mother, Therese Rita Naughton (nee Malenfant) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, May 15th, 2018, at the age of 94.
Therese was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan on November 5th, 1923, to Hermenegilde and Marie Malenfant. She grew up on the family farm in Meota, Saskatchewan along with her older sister Cecile (Sis) and younger brother Maurice. Mom often fondly reminisced about the local dances she loved to attend and her joy of cooking for the farmhands during harvest.
Therese married and had three children, including twins, within three years. She had her hands full but did an excellent job. The family settled in Calgary for several years before a shift to the U.S.A. which lasted several years. The family then moved back to Richmond, B.C. in 1966 where we grew up.
In late 2015 Therese moved to Port Alberni on Vancouver Island where she enjoyed a tranquil view of the Somass River from her home and had the company of the twins Murray and Marilyn and her grand dog Ciya who she absolutely adored and who adored her.
Therese had a mix of sales and clerical jobs throughout her working life. After her retirement Mom continued to work at the Hastings Racecourse in Vancouver. She thrived on the social atmosphere and loved the racing.
Mom had a passion for travel and went on many cruises and holidays. Every two to three years she made certain to travel “down under” to Australia to visit her eldest daughter Faye. She made her final trip at the age of 90.
She also was a keen cribbage player and somehow won most games. Following hockey was another favourite past time.
Mom passed on to us her solid work ethics and her dedication to maintaining strong family ties. We thank her for that and the all of the many lessons she taught us.
Therese joins her beloved parents, dear brother and sister. May she rest in peace.
Love you forever.
Faye, Marilyn, Murray and Ciya.
