With hearts filled with sadness, the family announce that their Sister, Mother and Grandmother (Gram) Bernice passed away peacefully at West Coast General Hospital May 22, 2021 after her long battle with congestive heart failure and COPD. She requested no service and wanted to be cremated. She was 79 years old.
She leaves behind her daughter Bonnie Kuxhaus (Paul), son John Graitson (Heather), stepson Glenn Burns (Trina), her precious grandchildren Jordan, Riley (Mallory) Mariah, Kyra (Spencer) Garin and Dale, 2 brothers, Len (Sue) and Jim (Heather), sister in law Lorraine Ruel, brother and sister in laws Ray and Rita Graitson and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her first husband Maurice Graitson in 1989, second husband Scotty Burns in 2001, and brother Bob and nephew Dale both in 2004 and Dale’s brother Trent in 2018.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren and going for drives with her rescue dog Gracie. She enjoyed watching curling, playing crib and loved watching the game show channel.
Her legacy from her and her first husband Maurice is their family cabin on Great Central Lake to which she enjoyed the peaceful sounds of nature and appreciated it much more as she got older.
We would like to thank her nurses, Kelsey, April, Emma, Dr. Kitshoff and Dr. Woodley for the wonderful care they gave her while she was in the hospital.
She will always be missed and was the matriarch of our family. She always brought us together throughout the years and ultimately did it for the last time before she passed.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honour her memory may do so by making a donation to the War Amps as she supported that organization for many years with the Key Tag service.
