Carolyn MacIsaac Obituary

It is with great sorrow and heartache that the family of Carolyn Frances (MacInnis) MacIsaac announces her passing on October 1st, 2021 in Parksville, British Columbia.  Carolyn was a woman of courage, strength and a sense of humour and a loving mother, nana, wife and sister.

Carolyn graduated with a B.A. from St. Francis Xavier University and did post graduate work at the University of Toronto graduating in Child Study. She was devoted to her teaching profession and taught elementary school in Quebec City and with the Niagara District School Board in Ontario.   Over the years Carolyn taught Junior Kindergarten to Grade 2. Her last assignment was Junior/Senior Kindergarten at Smith School in Grimsby.  She was dedicated and hard working and by example, shared that ethic with her children.

Carolyn often enjoyed summers at her parent’s bungalow on the Bras D’Or Lakes and camping with her family in Canada and the USA. She was a prolific reader and especially enjoyed a good suspense novel. Not particularly an avid sports fan, Carolyn did enjoy swimming, skating and the competition and team spirit on the curling rink. She particularly liked to travel and visited most of the states in the USA including Hawaii, her favourite. She made several trips to the United Kingdom, Ireland and Europe and also travelled to Mexico, Australia and New Zealand.

After retiring and moving to British Columbia, Carolyn enjoyed the fellowship at the University Women’s Club of Vancouver where she met new friends and practiced her decorating skills preparing the mansion for the annual Christmas at Highcroft events. UWCV was also where she honed her skills in bridge.

For over 18 years Carolyn bravely fought cancer, the Emperor of All Maladies and won many battles with the help of medical professionals and prayers and support from friends and family, but the Emperor is a tough combatant and the Lord decided that it was time to concede.

Carolyn is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years John, her much loved daughter’s Meghan and Julie (Andrew) Whitson and their son James. She is also survived by her bothers Jim and John (Jane) and sister Judy and four nieces: Laura, Melissa, Natalie, Jessie and a nephew Neill (Molly) and great nephews, Justin, Shamus, Billy, Hank, James and great nieces Melanie and Madelyn and many sisters & brothers in-law and their families.  Carolyn was predeceased by her parents, Hugh and Margaret (Mercer) MacInnis of Sydney, Nova Scotia.  Also left to mourn is her cherished Havanese best friend, Olivia.
