Celeste Grad Obituary

CELESTE GRAD of Parksville, BC, passed away Feb. 21, 2024, quietly in her home with her spouse, Bonita Price, of 49 years by her side. Celeste was raised in the outskirts of NW Calgary where her parents owned a small motel business, the Graddell Motel.  Celeste loved growing up with her big brother in tow, riding horses and spending as much time outside in nature as she could. Celeste became a skilled rider who competed in gymkhanas and other competitions. Celeste was very athletic, captain of basketball and volleyball teams and an accomplished figure skater. Through it all, she found escape in her love of animals, her enjoyment as a rider and her athletic ability.  It was no wonder that years later Celeste and Bonita ended up living and working on the cattle ranch, Soderglen, that her brother owned.  Her most favorites memories are jumping into a piece of equipment whether it was trucks or tractors and do whatever she could to be helpful.  She loved to be around the cattle and the newborn babies every spring.  Celeste appreciated birds growing up and always was around them and her and Stan really enjoyed the birds on the lake at the ranch.  She had a lifelong love of animals and had many dogs over the years.

Celeste received her younger years of schooling in Calgary and then attended University of Calgary, where she did a major in sociology and minor in psychology, Bachelor of Arts and then took a further year to get a Bachelor of Social work. She returned to university in the 1980” s to get her master’s in social work and that put her in the position to manage hundreds of staff for the Edmonton region of Alberta Social Services.  Celeste spent over 30 years dedicating her work life to the betterment of Alberta Social Services.

Celeste was predeceased by her parents Cecil and Delmar Grad, her brother Stan Grad and niece Kristine Grad. She was a very strong woman who lived a fulfilling life. Her spouse Bonita has been by her side for almost 50 years and aided in taking care of her whole family during different points of her life as well as Celeste later. She was a rock for them and a great partner who loved Celeste very dearly.

Celeste is now living vicariously through all our memories and will be remembered through her spouse Bonita Price, and her numerous friends and family she had made throughout her life. Her love and admiration she had for the people she loved will always be the guiding force we strive to live by each day. She will be remembered for her precious soul, love, and kindness.
