Christa Friede Obituary

Known as “Oma” by many Christa (Loh) Friede passed away suddenly and peacefully at her beloved home on Tuesday, August 4th, 2020.

She will be missed by her son Detlef and his former wife Petra, her first grandson Dominik and his wife Stephanie and her second grandson Matt and wife Amanda and her great grand children Conner, Ryan & Lyanna.

Christa was born on February 18th, 1933 in Berlin, Germany to Karl Loh and Kaethe Loh.   During her childhood, Christa was a child of World War II and she got moved out of Germany (among the other children) to the countryside to help protect them. After the war Oma moved to England to apprentice as a seamstress and to learn English. She returned as a young independent and strong woman and fell in love with Hans-Joachim Friede, who she married. The new bride was welcomed by Hans-Joachim’s family to join his family home where his parents and grandparents were still living.

On July 7th, 1959 Christa gave birth to Detlef and while still living in the same house Christa and Hans decided to move with her family to Canada in November 1997, were she got so see her grandchildren grow up in the great Canadian Wilderness (Qualicum Bay). She had always joked that if she would have stayed in Germany that she would not have made it in to her 80’s. She was loving and loved her new home.

When she moved to Parksville in 2009 after losing her husband suddenly, Christa joined the Parksville Legion and made lots of new friends.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Parksville Legion in Christa's name.
