Daljeet (fondly called Guddi by her parents and Mrs. Kaur by her friends) passed away in Nanaimo, BC on October 2, 2020. Born in Halluwal, India, she is survived by her husband and partner for 50 years, Surinder Barring; son Harbinder (“Beenu”) (daughter-in-law Garima); daughter Yashwinder ("Ashu") Bajwa (son-in-law Mohinder); daughter Hardeep ("Deepa") Aujla (son-in-law Rajvir); daughter Rajneesh ("Raji") Fontana (son-in-law Cris); and eight wonderful grandchildren: Kaneil, Bernek, Sehej, Rhea, Uday, Ari, Zara and Kaya. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She loved being a “Nani” but becoming a “Dadi” gave her immense joy.
How is it possible to sum up a person? A person you admire, with such a heroic view of life and with so much to give and gain. Daljeet will be remembered as a selfless, resilient, passionate and kind-hearted person who always had a smile. Her approach to life was as strong as her kindness and love for her family. She had a quiet strength and loved her friends and family with her whole soul. Her words of encouragement, wisdom and compassion taught us to live our lives with dignity and grace and instill those same values in our children.
She was a nurse and midwife by trait and worked as a senior nurse at a hospital before taking on the role of a residential nurse at Sri Dasmesh Academy and Army Public School in Dagshai, India respectively. She appreciated her friends and colleagues with who she had the privilege of working with in India and Canada.
We would like to thank her home support (VIHA), health care team, and staff at Nanaimo and Victoria General Hospital for their care and support. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
