With great sorrow, we announce the sudden passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and dear friend, David (Dave) W. Hammond. Dave is survived by his loving daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Vuong (Michael); grandsons, Dylan and Vincent Gibson; granddaughter, Sierra Safinuk; closest friend, Anne Jacobson; and many friends and acquaintances during his career with the R.C.M.P. Dave was predeceased by his daughter, Victoria Gibson, who passed away February 14, 2020.
Born in Brandon, Manitoba, Dave joined the R.C.M.P. shortly after high school. He served his career in Vegreville, Calgary, Rocky Mountain House, Red Deer, Sylvan Lake, Fairview and St. Paul, Alberta. He received many accolades throughout his career, including a medal of honour for his work with the relief effort during the devastating wildfire in Slave Lake, Alberta in 2011. He retired as a Staff Sergeant after thirty-five years of service and relocated to Nanoose Bay, Vancouver Island. He found pleasure taking walks along the shoreline. Dave made many trips to the prairies to visit loved ones.
Dave was a courageous man who always spoke his mind. He was fiercely loyal to his loved ones. Dave was logical with keen interests in science and space. He was a determined, diligent person with a great sense of humour. During his lifetime, his varied interests included scuba diving, guitar lessons, carpentry, technology, downhill skiing, boating and hiking. He was a trained airplane pilot. Dave was a classic rock music fan who attended numerous concerts. His passion was his Goldwing motorcycle. Either with friends or alone, Dave biked extensively. He passed through every province and territory in Canada, and every state in the U.S.A. Dave also enjoyed a quiet home life. He enjoyed watching films and listening to podcasts with his two cats, MegaBite and Gizmo. He was a gracious host to all his guests. Always thoughtful, Dave will forever live in our hearts.
A private service for David Hammond will be held for family at the R.C.M.P. Depot Division, Regina, SK.
