Sadly we announce that Don passed on Friday, January 31, 2020 at the West Coast General Hospital in Port Alberni. He leaves to forever miss him, his wife of 23 years, Marlene; sister, Sonja; and many extended family members and friends. Don was predeceased by his parents Dora and Tom Malmer; son, Byron; and sisters, Lucille and Florence.
Don spent his working years as a "rigger" in the iron working industry. For health reasons, Don took early retirement from the Plumber & Pipefitter's Union in 1996. He and Marlene moved to Port Alberni in 2005 leaving behind the busy life in Vancouver to settle in the valley. He was a Canadian Army Veteran and was proud to have served his country in Germany from 1951 to 1954. Don was an active member of Branch 293 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Port Alberni. He enjoyed a good game of crib and made many lasting friendships among other card players.
A Celebration to honour Don's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Don's memory may do so by making a donation in his name to a charity of their choice.
