Douglas Toombs Obituary

Douglas Lloyd Toombs passed away peacefully on June 24TH 2022 following a long illness. Doug was predeceased by Yvette, his wife of 26 years by only 12 days.

Born in Regina Saskatchewan, Doug excelled in academics. He completed a BA from the University of Saskatchewan and an MA in social work from the University of Manitoba.

While in Winnipeg, he met Geraldine Stevenson. They married in 1964 and had two children, Stephen and Andrea.

Doug’s career spanned three provinces and he was involved in many innovative projects including “Newstart” located in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

Over the years, Doug was involved in several groups and organizations. He enjoyed curling, playing snooker with his son, volunteering with the retired government employees of BC. And listening to his jazz collection.

Following his marriage to Yvette Humphrey in 1997, they became very active in the Sid Williams Theatre in Courtenay, and the Echo Players Theatre in Qualicum Beach.

Doug is survived by his daughter Andrea and son Stephen (Erica), his grandchildren Michael and Caitlin, sister Gloria and nieces Tanalyn, Peri-Ann and Tiffany. He is also survived by his stepchildren Melanie, Michelle and Brian, his uncle Dr. Gordon Toombs of Winnipeg and Geraldine Hinton.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Gardens of Qualicum Beach for their care of Doug and Yvette.

Everyone is welcome to attend a joint service will be held at Yates Memorial Services, 1000 Allsbrook Road in Parksville on Saturday July 30th, 2022, at 1PM.
