Pete was born in Carstairs AB as the second of 7 children.  In 1929 the family moved to Turner Valley where he spent his formative and teenage years. Pete began working at the tender age of 15, first turning props at the High River pilot training school, and then in the same year began his oil & gas drilling career in Turner Valley.  Starting out as a roughneck and working his way up the ranks, he was a Driller at 19 years old, and then Tool Push by age of 23.  On December 6, 1947 he married the love of his life Leila, and they began their journey together.  Starting out in Calmar in a reclaimed Chicken coup as their first home; they welcomed their 3 children over the following 10 years. Pete, Leila & family lived on numerous drilling leases and locations throughout the province of Alberta, and cities including Pincher Creek, Calgary and Edmonton.   In 1974 Pete was recognized for his leadership skills and vast drilling knowledge which began 8 years of Overseas, offshore drilling in numerous worldwide locations including New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Scotland & Africa.  Returning to Canada in 1982 and working off the east coast of Nova Scotia until 1985 when he and Leila decided it was time to retire and found their paradise in Qualicum Beach, British Columbia with their beloved companion, Nipper.

In May 1986 Pete & Leila began 30 beautiful years of retirement together.  Of the many groups, organizations, clubs and volunteer efforts they enjoyed, the Marion Baker Fish Hatchery, Parksville Probus Group and Eagle Crest golf Club were amongst their favorites.  These organizations held some of their most cherished moments and connections. Among the many accomplishments of his life, 4 Hole in one's golfing, recognition by  Ducks Unlimited Canada with their annual Community Conservation Award in 2013 and 25 years of membership service with Probus Group, Parksville Chapter.  Pete and Leila enjoyed numerous adventures travelling, fishing, gardening, theater, dinner parties, picnics, and BBQ’s and spending time with family.   Pete’s last overseas adventure was for his 90th birthday, surrounded by family in southern Costa Rica.

Pete was well known by friends and family alike for his detailed accounts of memories & storytelling prowess, which will be fondly missed.
