Earle Mitchell Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Earle; a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. He had much love for his wife of 47 years, Madeleine (nee Tessier), for his children Jennifer (Chris) and Lindsay (Kacie) and for his two beautiful grandchildren, Avery (10) and Isla (8), whom he thought the world of.

Earle was a clever, articulate, and pragmatic man of enormous integrity and dry humour. He was witty, kind, methodical and had a keen eye for details. Earle was also a man with a wide range of interests over his lifetime; woodworking, boating, motorcycling, fishing, golfing, gardening, wine making, coffee with the boys, RV’ing with friends and enjoying a bottle of beer or two. He could pick on the guitar and sing (but for Madeleine’s ears only). He loved to travel by sea or road (across Canada, into the States and Mexico with the RV unit). He also treasured the slumber parties with his grandchildren.

His children remember him as a loving, wise, supportive, protective and adventurous father. Cherished memories include the many road trips, campouts, boating weekends, card games, laughter and the Dad jokes.

His professional career was spent in construction in Qualicum Beach, including a supervisory role in the construction of most of the Quality Foods stores. First here in Qualicum and then elsewhere around the island and coastal communities. He was admired by all and he deeply appreciated those he worked alongside. His wife was so proud of him in all of his accomplishments.

Earle was predeceased by his parents Gerald and Maureen, his oldest brother Dennis and his wife Patti, and his in-laws Emile and Marion Tessier. He is survived by his brothers Phillip (Cindy), Stephen (Erin) and Warren (Sherry), his loving Aunt Olive, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his sister-in-law Louise (Rob), and brother-in-laws Peter (Wendy) and Don.

Earle was someone taken way too soon and will be forever missed by his family and friends afar. He will also be missed by the many close friends that he made and maintained throughout his life, stretching back to his school days in Victoria, and his little four-legged man Arlo (brother Dan), who looks for him daily.

Until we meet at the golden gates, goodbye.
