Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edith (Edie) Evelyn Lundberg (nee Northway), age 88.  She is predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Carl in 2015.  She is survived by her daughter Linda (Alan) and her son Dan.  She also leaves behind her sisters, Patricia (Karl) Walther, Kathleen Wood, Marjie Anderson, Joan (Jack) Waite, her brothers, George (Margaret) Northway, Bert Northway, Jim (Sandy) Northway, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mom was born to Albert and Mary Northway in Hampshire, England. She lived in Hook until immigrating to Canada at the age of 14. She lived in numerous areas of B.C., but Qualicum Beach was her home for the last 30 years.

Throughout her life she worked as a nurse’s aide, Woodwards, and also ran a cleaning business with her sister Patricia.

The perfect day for mom would be gardening all day, then playing Bridge or cards all night, unless the Toronto Blue Jays were playing, then she had to coach from the sofa.

Mom’s pride and joy was her beautiful garden and impressive rockery.  She loved watching the hummingbirds, quail and other birds enjoy the same garden.  She had a talent for sewing and needlework, and took on many projects, often for other people.  Many days she would help Dad in his workshop building custom oak furniture.  She also designed the last two homes they lived in.

Mom was a strong woman, both in body and spirit. She was always willing to help others when she could, and had a fair and generous heart. At the same time, she asked little of others, and didn’t want anyone to fuss over her.

Many thanks to the wonderful caregivers that mom had during these last few weeks.  The doctor/nursing staff at Nanaimo Hospital, Home Care/Support Services, and her last two days at Trillium Lodge. The care and compassion that you showed was overwhelming.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 26, 2023 at noon, at Yates Memorial Services in Parksville, B.C.

Donations in Edie’s honour may be made to charities of your choice.
