Elaine Watson Obituary

Elaine was a beloved daughter of George and Edna Scott. She is survived by her father, George; sister Janice; brother Blake; her step-mother of 30 years, Beth; and step-children, Michelle Krall (nee: Watson) and Mark Watson; 2 grandchildren, Derek and Matthew; 3 nephews, Brendan, Eric, and Steven. Elaine is pre-deceased by her mother, Edna; husband, Tom Watson and step-son, Tyler Watson.

The youngest child, she was born in New Westminster, B.C. and raised in Cloverdale. As a child, Elaine danced ballet, rode her horse, Flash, and with her brother was a member of the 4-H calf club. She had many friends. A school trip to Europe started a lifelong interest in travel and different cultures. Elaine was a kind and loving person always ready to help others.

After graduation, Elaine enrolled in Fashion and Design at Kwantlen College and went on to receive a B.A. In Anthropology at UBC. Elaine met her husband, Tom Watson, through friends and they were married in 1989. Elaine became step-mother to Tom’s three children and the surviving children remember her with affection. They enjoyed 16 happy years together until Tom’s passing in 2005.

Elaine had an unshakeable desire for social justice and a deep love of nature. She worked as a Youth and Childcare Worker at PASS Woodwinds in Parksville for 20 years. Putting her ideals into practice, Elaine accepted executive and volunteer positions in community and political organizations including: the NDP; Qualicum Beach Residents’ Association; Communities Protecting Our Coast; Canadian Federation of University Women and the Friends of CBC. She was a lot of fun, loved music and dancing, reading, her garden, and had a big soft spot for animals.

Elaine touched many lives and will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, Elaine.

In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Elaine with a donation to an environmental or social justice organization, or any cause you hold dear.
