We are sad to announce the passing of Emil Mortensen aka “The Feed Man.”
Emil leaves behind his wife Wendy, her children Greg (Susie), Deb (Ron), grandchildren Karrmen (Jordan), Emily (Alex), Ashlie, Autumn, Brayden, and Gracie as well as great grandchildren Lilly-Anne and Kingston; his son Ben, granddaughter Nyx (Mark), great grandson Boston and Ben’s mother Virginia; stepsons Matthew, Andrew (Anais), their children Yardley & Athena, along with Matthew and Andrew’s mother Mary; Shelby Hansen who Emil thought of like a daughter; his siblings Maggie (Geoff), Lennie (Shirley), Karen (Gary), Carlo, Mary-Lou, Judi-Anne (Ed), Bill (Diana), Heather, Ella (Carl), Stewart (Carol), Helen, numerous nieces and nephews, plus his cousin Betty. Emil was predeceased by his son David and his sister Diane.
During the past few years, Emil struggled with several health issues. He was eventually admitted to the Palliative Care Unit at Nanaimo General Hospital where he spent his last days resting peacefully under their excellent care. His lifelong friend George Mitchell and dear friend Greg Graham joined his wife Wendy to sit by his side.
After moving to Parksville from Ladner, Emil worked at the local Buckerfield's. His dreams of being a business owner/operator were realized when he opened Station Farm & Feed where he was passionate about helping his many loyal customers. After more than 30 years, Emil was very pleased when his son Ben took over the business. As most people know, Emil loved to watch many sports on TV, especially his beloved Vancouver Canucks. Playing golf, morning chats with his buddies, spending time at the barn with Deb and the horses, and family gatherings were just a few of his favourite retirement activities.
A celebration of Emil’s life will take place on Sunday October 29, 2023, at the Errington Hall, 2 pm – 4pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Emil’s memory can be made to the BC SPCA or the charity of your choice.
