Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Glennwood Roy Lario at the age of 63. Glenn was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on September 7, 1959, and was the only son of Roy and Frances Lario (Schentag). The family moved to Abbotsford in 1961 where he attended Godson Elementary and Abbotsford Secondary School. One of Glenn’s joys in life was fly fishing, which started at the young age of 10 when an old family friend introduced him to the sport. Fly fishing became a real passion that he carried with him for the rest of his life, and even passed down to his children.

In 1979, Glenn joined the Department of Fisheries and Oceans as a Fishery Officer and worked to conserve and protect fish and wildlife. He married Kathleen (Bassani) in 1988 and together they raised their three children while living in Mission, Whitehorse, Williams Lake, and Parksville. One of his greatest joys in life was his three children and three grandchildren whom he loved so much. After retiring from a 35-year career with the DFO, Glenn traveled and fished many lakes in the interior of British Columbia, the beaches of Vancouver Island, as well as Mexico. He loved to share his knowledge of fishing and expertise with his friends, and those he met along the way. Glenn was also an avid reader and writer throughout his life and enjoyed the work of Shakespeare, Ernest Hemingway, Henry Miller, and many more. He had an excellent memory when it came to what he read and was often reciting lines from poems or books that he had read years before. He was also an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for and with his family. A man of simple pleasures that held his relationships with his family and friends close to his heart. Glenn always tried to make the most out of life and make others around him happy. He was always willing to give a helping hand to those in need, never asking or expecting anything in return.

Glenn will always be remembered for his love for the simple things in life, the love he had for his children and grandchildren, his long-time career with the DFO, his passion for books, poetry, and of course, fly fishing. He lived an uncommon and fulfilling life which he was very proud and thankful for. Left to mourn are his children Brenden, Courtenay (Adam), Aidan (Crystal), Kathleen, and his three grandsons. Glenn also leaves behind three sisters, Janice, Denise, and Jacqueline, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends. He is predeceased by his parents and two stepsisters. A celebration of life for Glenn will be held at Pacific Playground Resort, Oyster River Saturday, October 14th at 4:00 pm.
