Gwen Zradicka (Keele) Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful mother Gwendoline Grace Zradicka at Qualicum Manor in Qualicum Beach, British Columbia.

Gwen was born in Surrey, England in 1923 to Frank and Ethel Harms. She had an older sister, Irene who predeceased her in 1985. She came to Canada as a War Bride in 1944, having married Dave Keele in 1941 in the UK. David, her firstborn came to Canada with her as a 10 month old infant. They settled in Saskatchewan with Dave’s family until he returned in 1945 at the end of the war. Upon Dave’s return to Canada and to his duties as an RCMP officer they spent a number of years being posted to various places in Manitoba, The Pas, Wabowden, Winnipegosis, Dauphin, and Portage la Prairie. Daughter Shelley was born during this time. Sadly their union ended in divorce in the 60s.

Gwen married Harry Zradicka in 1969 and had a wonderful 33 year marriage until Harry’s passing in 2002. She was again blessed to meet a lovely man, Sandy Sandomirsky with whom she shared a number of wonderful adventures until his passing in 2017. She leaves her son, David and her daughter, Shelley (Jack) as well as David’s children Lindsay (Mike) and Jarrett (Caroline) and Lisa. She also leaves eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Gwen was engaged and engaging in every moment of her life. She lived through incredibly tough times with her head held high and always moved forward She shared her life lessons freely with her family and friends and was always ready to listen and offer advice when anyone was in need. We always knew how much she loved us and will miss her every day for the rest of our lives. The family would like to thank the staff of Qualicum Manor for their many kindnesses and the wonderful care they provided to make Mom's final years so enjoyable. We are humbled by your kindness, dedication and caring.
