Irmgard Bordt (Abt): 1928 - 2021
Our beloved mother and grandmother, Irmgard (Ingrid) Bordt (nee Abt), passed away quietly on December 31, 2021 at the age of 93 in Nanaimo, BC after a brief illness.
She was born September 16, 1928 in Flammberg, East Prussia, Germany, the fifth of seven children, to Martin and Wilhelmine Abt. She had to flee her homeland at the end of the Second World War and ended up in Siedenburg, Germany, where she met her husband, Friedrich Bordt. They married in 1953 and emigrated to Canada in 1955 with their young daughter, settling in Kitchener-Waterloo, where she lived for over 60 years. At age 90, she moved to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island with her son, Martin and daughter-in-law, Ilona.
Over the years, she was associated with several local congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses, notably the Eastwood (Kitchener) and Conestoga (Waterloo) and finally Mountain View in Nanaimo, BC.
Our beloved mother is survived by her three children, Cornelia, Martin (Ilona), and Ingrid (Ed), along with five grandchildren, Natalie, Stephanie (Jed), and Martin (Melissa), Amanda, and Michael (Pamela). Irmgard also leaves behind five great grandchildren: Eve, Isabelle, and Daniel, and Audrey and Martin. She has two surviving sisters in Germany, Hedi and Gretel.
Irmgard was pre-deceased by her husband of 46 years, Fred (December 31, 1999), her parents, Martin and Wilhelmine Abt, her brothers, Eduard and Willi, and two sisters, Herta and Hildegard.
Thank you to the care givers at Trillium Lodge Hospice for making her comfortable during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to your favourite charity in our mother’s name.
