Ivar Arnold RAGE

Ivar’s family is saddened to announce his passing on Monday, April 12th in Port Alberni.   

 He is survived by his sons, Anthony and John; grandchildren, Jesper, Waverley, and Arlen Rage and Trevor and Finley Loranger; as well as many extended family members and friends.   Ivar was predeceased by his loving wife, Patricia Garth Hall in May of 2011; son, Gareth in November of 2014; and daughter, Karen in January of 1976.

Born in Norway, Ivar immigrated to Canada in 1954 with his younger brother, Ragnar.   After spending their first few years in Saskatchewan, Ragnar relocated to Port Alberni and encouraged Ivar to come “check out this wonderful place”. Ivar fell in love with the Valley and put down roots.   It was his lifelong dream to purchase some land and go farming and the Valley seemed like the perfect place to fulfill his dream.   Ragnar returned to Norway. 

When he first arrived in Port Alberni, Ivar befriended Garrick (Garry) Hall who introduced him to his sister, Patricia Garth Hall and they were married on April 16, 1960.    

Ivar worked at APD for 10 years and Pat worked as a legal secretary for several years.  They purchased a 40 acre property at the end of McKenzie Rd shortly after their marriage where they settled in to raise a family and become an active part of the community. 

Ivar was “larger than life”, a “jack of all trades”, who lived farming and anything to do with it 24/7.   He attributed much of his success to his wife and business partner of 51 years. He missed Patricia dearly and life for Ivar was never the same after her passing. 

Rages Farms Ltd will continue to operate in the Valley producing greenhouse cucumbers from March to November under the Rages Farm brand.   Ivar was very proud to be part of the community and an employer of so many for so long.

He was very satisfied with his life and certainly will not be forgotten.
