John Piety Obituary

John Douglas Earl Piety passed away peacefully in Parksville, B.C., Canada, on March 24, 2024 at age 95, shortly after suffering a heart attack.

We celebrate a life well lived and a man who loved to live. He always had a “5 year plan” and had just renewed his driver's license that expired on his 100th birthday. Yes, he still was a safe driver! He was a kind, accepting and generous man who loved his family and friends and was loved by his family, friends, and all he met. He could do anything and was a jack of all trades and master of most.

He married Josephine Bailey in Fort Nelson, B. C. 1949 and were together until her death in 2005. They loved to dance and travel, and he was the best conversationalist. He could talk with anyone about anything.

Born in Indiana and raised in Avon Park, Florida, John enlisted December 30, 1946, at age of 17 in the United States Army-Air Corp and retired July 31, 1968, at the rank of Major US Air Force. He spent one year in Vietnam and received a Bronze Star.

John is survived by his three daughters: Gwenda Felizardo (Cesar), Wanda Piety (Warren Dronet), Tricia Piety (Harry Indriksons); grandchildren: Christopher Felizardo, Daniel Felizardo (Janai), Ijah Charlestein (deceased), Saign Charlestein (Becky); great grandchildren: Dasha Matthews, Kaylani Felizardo, Akemi Roberts, Christopher A. Felizardo, Jaiden Felizardo, Tristen Felizardo, Muzik McCoy; Elliana Charlestein; ex-son-in-law Bruce Charlestein (Wanda); and sister Joanna Rimes and many other relatives living in Florida and throughout the USA.

He is also survived by a very important Canadian family that adopted him as their “lolo” grandfather. Menchie Jandoc, her sister Cherry Sumile, husband Glenn Sumile, and children Mikaela (Mikee) and Mariella (Maui) Sumile. They loved and cared for him and gave him enduring purpose; he loved them.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
