Katherine Ethier

Katherine Ethier left us the morning of September 25, 2020, with family by her bedside in Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island. Katherine was born October 25 1936 in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia.

Katherine was a graduate of the Bloor Collegiate Institute in 1953. Not only a straight “A” student, she was a regular on the school’s Basketball team.

“Kay”, as she was affectionately known as, met Germain Bernard Ethier in Nova Scotia while “Gerry” was in the Airforce. They wed November 9, 1957.

Kay & Gerry settled in Aurora, Ontario and raised two sons, Jeffery Scott & Edward William.

Kay worked at Excel Metalcraft in Aurora as a Bookkeeper. She worked there so long, many said if she ever left, Excel wouldn’t survive. They were correct!

They moved to Parksville, BC in 1994. Kay volunteered for numerous organisations including : SOS, Thrifty’s, Newcomers club, Sundial and hosting Bridge games with her Buddies for years.

The list of close friends is endless from Aurora to Parksville. Thank You for your compassion & support.

Kay truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; spending time with family & friends, going to the cottage on weekends and watching her boys play Hockey, which she followed into her later years (Habs fan). We still had inspiring discussions about the playoffs this year (she was so disappointed the Oilers were knocked out as she was a huge Connor McDavid fan).

Kay & Gerry became avid travelers, her favorite destination being the Canary Islands.

Her favorite flower was Birds of Paradise, which she was always overjoyed to receive on many occasions.

At times opinionated, there were few who didn’t Love Mom. She will be deeply missed by her family & friends.

As a mother, we really couldn’t ask for more. Sleep well Mom.

In these uncertain times, there will be no service.
