Welcome to the memorial page for

Leonard Clarence BRACKO

December 2, 1943 ~ August 19, 2017 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Alberta says good-bye to a wonderful man, a loving husband, a true friend, an inspiring teacher, an honest politician, a worthy athlete, and a devoted connoisseur of ice cream.

It is with great sadness that the family of Len Bracko announces his passing after a sudden cardiac event on August 19, 2017. He leaves to mourn his wife Barb, who was his best friend, his cycling partner, his travel companion, and his helpmate in their many professional and volunteer activities.

Len lived a life of service and touched the lives of many through his years of teaching, political life, and volunteering. Students recall his humour and patience.  Politicians remember him as a man more interested in cooperation than in conflict, and the beneficiaries of his charitable work thank a man who was not afraid to roll up his sleeves to get the job done.

Besides his wife Barb, he will be lovingly remembered by his brothers Robert (Terry), David (Charlene), Louie, and Brady (Barbara); sisters Bernice Hogenkamp (Gary), Marlene Bracko Herbert, and Colleen McDougall (Lindsay); sisters-in-law Evelyn Bracko and Margaret Huber (Jim); father-in-law John Beatty; and brother-in-law Gordon Beatty (Stella). The joy of Len’s presence will be sadly missed by his 24 nieces and nephews, 27 great nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.  He was predeceased by his siblings Ken, Lorne, and Barbara; his parents John and Lena; and his mother-in-law Nellie Beatty.

Following a memorial service in Parksville, BC where he has resided for the past year, a service of remembrance and funeral mass will begin at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, August 31 at Holy Family Parish, 75 Poirier Ave St. Albert, AB.  Memorial donations in memory of Len can be made to: Roots of Change Foundation P.O. Box 92 St Albert, Alberta Canada T8T 1N2.
