Lois Burns Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Lois Wendy (Flumerfelt) Burns. Wendy, as she preferred, passed away at Stanford Senior's Village in Parksville, BC on Monday March 25th, 2024 in the presence of family.

Wendy was predeceased by her father, Mervyn Sinclair Flumerfelt, and her mother, Beatrice Annis Sophia (Siddall) Flumerfelt.

Wendy is survived by her husband, Roy Francis Burns. Her eldest son David Francis Burns and his wife Dina Chang.  Her youngest son John Mervyn Burns, his wife Leanne Faye Burns, and their children Keaton Roy Burns and Alyssa Faye (Burns) Matherly-Shields.

Wendy was born in New Westminster and graduated as a registered nurse from the Royal Columbian Hospital School of Nursing in 1965.  Wendy and Roy were married the same year and their first son, David, was born in 1967.  John was born in 1970 and in 1974, Wendy and her family moved to Vancouver Island where they built a house and home in Nanoose Bay.  Wendy worked as a nurse and ward clerk for 35 years where she retired from the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. During her nursing career she worked in the operating room, the intensive care unit, the psychiatric unit, and as a ward clerk.

Wendy will be fondly remembered as a devoted daughter, a loving wife, a caring mother, and an attentive grandmother. She dedicated her time to supporting her parents during their retirement, building a home with her husband, raising her sons, and enjoying her grandchildren.

She volunteered her time to the Nanoose Bay Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Trillium Lodge Auxiliary, Arrowsmith Needle Arts Guild, and the Parksville-Qualicum Fish & Game Club.

Wendy and Roy had celebrated 58 years of marriage and had travelled Canada and the world together.

She will be sorrowfully missed by those who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers please give donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
