Lorna Smith Obituary

Lorna May Smith, our beloved Mother, passed away at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, May 19. 2020 at James Bay Care Centre, Victoria, B.C. Her family was at her side as she began her journey to the place of the Lord.

Lorna was born in Radville, Saskatchewan, June 4, 1918 where she spent most of her childhood years.

She was predeceased by her Mother Lottie Fox 1892-1970, her Father Lorne Fox (1891-1970), her husband Kenneth Ray Smith (1913-2001) and brother Lloyd F. Fox (1921-2006).

When Lorna was of age, she was accepted into The Grey Nuns School of Nursing in Regina, Saskatchewan. On becoming a registered nurse, she began working at the Lethbridge Hospital in Alberta. Later she travelled to Port Alberni, B.C. to work at The West Coast General Hospital, and went on to take positions with several Doctors in their private practices.

Lorna touched the lives of many, in her professional life, and her personal life, always putting the needs of others ahead of her own. As the family matriarch, she organized all family gatherings and made sure no one was left out, her cooking skills were awesome and could whip up a full course meal at the blink of an eye. Mom leaves behind a loving family, Gail (John), Carol (Mike), Ken (Wendy), Rick (Kathie), and youngest David. She was blessed with nine (9) grandchildren, (15) fifteen great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, plus her very special American cousins, and long time friends, Mom was a long time member of The First United Church in Port Alberni, then moved to Qualicum Beach, B.C. where she became an active member at St. Stephens United Church in Qualicum, B.C.

A special Thank you to all the wonderful caregivers who assisted her at home as well as the loving care she received at the James Bay Care Centre in Victoria, B.C.

At a later date a celebration of her life and remembrance will be held at the St. Stephens Church in Qualicum Beach, B.C.
