It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Marguerite Holoboff, 91, of Qualicum Beach, BC, at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Marguerite, or ‘Gigs’ as most knew her, was the seventh child of Yvonne Marie Paillé (nee Gelley) and Dr. George Arthur Paillé.
Gigs is survived by her loving husband Lawrence ‘Slim’; her brother Bob; daughters Laurie Anne (Dave), Ellen (Chuck), sons Chris (Beverley), Bob (Fiona), and Greg (Christine); 11 grandchildren Sarah, Kaitlyn, Lauren, Rachel, Brayden, Michaela, Cameron, Nicole, Nicholas, Max and Jackson; three great-grandchildren Rae, Sawyer and Bowen; and many nieces and nephews. Marguerite was predeceased by her brothers George, David, Roger and sisters Lucille and Helen and two dear grandchildren Alyssa and Evan.
Born in Melville Saskatchewan, Gigs moved to Vancouver to work and met the love of her life, Slim; they were married on May 10th, 1958 and had 63 wonderful years together. Slim and Gigs settled in Surrey, BC, where she stayed home to raise their five children. In 1993 they moved to Qualicum Beach, BC.
During their retirement years Gigs and Slim enjoyed traveling to different parts of the world – Portugal, Scotland, Cook Islands, Hawaii and Mexico to name a few. Gigs was an amazing source of knowledge and family history with a great memory. She loved baseball, her favorite team was the Toronto Blue Jays, and she also enjoyed watching curling and Jeopardy, often with a ‘rye & soda’ in her hand. Gigs took great pleasure in entertaining and over the years they hosted countless dinner parties where the bar was always fully stocked.
Mom was loving, generous and kind and will be deeply missed by her family. A special thank you to Mom’s and Dad’s wonderful friends and neighbours for their love and care through the years. Due to COVID restrictions, a service will be held at a later date.
