It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to a dear wife of 72 years to Imre Gyory Predeceased November 10, 2017, and loving mother to Mary Tower and son-in-law Richard Tower. She adored her one and only grand-daughter Rebecca Allyson Cooper and Husband Aaron Matthew Cooper. The most treasured gifts in her life were her great grandsons, William, Charles, and Andrew Cooper. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind numerous family and friends in Budapest, Hungary where she began her life.
She is predeceased by her brother Gyula Varszegi (Klari) Budapest, Hungary. Survived by Peter Varszegi (Vera) Budapest, Hungary, The Galfi family (USA), The Reich Family (Budapest), The Baross Family (Ontario), The Gyorfi Family (Ontario), and numerous friends in Canada, USA and Hungary.
After graduating, Maria worked as a radio operator during WWII, a very important position that she spoke of with pride. She also met the love of her life at this time, married and their only child was born shortly after. As a stay-at-home Mom, she perfected her cooking, baking, needle craft and gardening. She also became an entrepreneur to assist with the family income.
Despite an improved lifestyle, the political climate posed an opportunity for a better life and in 1956, in her 30’s, she left everything behind and set out to begin life once again with nothing more than hope, grit, motivation and desire.
United, Maria and Imre began a new chapter. Despite hardships and challenges, they worked and thrived and were always grateful for the opportunity that Canada provided their family. Above all, family brought the greatest joy for our Mother. The arrival of her granddaughter was truly her happiest moment. She became a very involved grandma; loved spending summers at the cottage, introduced worldwide travel and heritage, and became her greatest cheerleader, celebrating each and every one of her successes.
In her 90’s, one more time in her life, she made a distant move to follow her ever loved granddaughter Rebecca and three precious great-grandchildren. She cherished her time with her boys as she watched them grow with pride. For 97 years, our mother was our guiding light in love and family. We will forever cherish her legacy which lives on in all of us.
Always in our hearts
From a grateful family.
Cremation has taken place and family celebration of life will take place in the Spring.
