It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Michael Jack Vandermoor on April 29, 2022, in Parksville, BC after a long and very brave battle with esophageal cancer. Beloved husband of Pauline (nee Boyle) and father of Michelle Vandermoor (Thomas Dionne) and Duncan Vandermoor (Alana Higginson), Mike was predeceased by his father and mother Tony and Patricia Vandermoor. He also leaves behind his aunt Phil (Bobe) Hodges, cousin Kim Boyd, niece Vanessa Brookes (Keith), nephew Zane Vandermoor, great nephews Quinn and Reed Brookes, sister in law Maureen Caufield, nephew Colin Caufield, many friends, including dear friends Pat Gannon and Lurene Music, and his beautiful dog Luna.
Mike was born and raised in North Vancouver. He attended Argyle Secondary School where he discovered his life-long passion for music and playing the guitar when he was part of their production of Jesus Christ Superstar – an experience he always cherished. He married Pauline in 1990 and together they raised their children in the beautiful community of Whonnock. Mike was a selfless, devoted, and hardworking father and husband. He was always very involved in his children’s lives and interests and in particular was an active member of Ducan’s hockey community. A kind and gentle man, he loved to fish with his friends, spend time with his family and go on endless long walks with his beautiful dog Luna. Mike loved nature and cared deeply for the many birds in his Whonnock lake backyard and in later years, his garden beside Rathtrevor Beach on Vancouver Island.
We are so grateful for the excellent care Mike received through his team at BC Cancer, and in his final days at Oceanside Hospice in Parksville. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Oceanside Hospice Society or the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC will be greatly appreciated. There will be a Celebration of Life on the Lower Mainland at a later date.
