Patrick "Bud" Fred HAGGERTY

Patrick (Bud) Fred Haggerty passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on October 11, 2023, getting his final wish to passover at home in his sleep.

He is survived by his son, Roger (Deb); daughters, Mary Bauto (Paolo), and Jane Ferderer (Dave); 6 grandchildren, Cory (Monika) and Alyssa; Julian and Lyndon (Jessica) and Cameron (Nikayla) and Colton; as well, Deb Plaunt his loving partner of 20 years, who cared for Dad in everyway possible when his health declined.  His is also survived by his brothers, Jack and Bill (Marlene) and twin sister, Phyllis Primeau.

Predeceased by his father, John, mother Mary, and two sisters Elaine Owens and Bessie Paquette.

Dad was born in Carrot River, Saskatchewan and the family moved to Port Alberni in the 1940’s.  Dad worked for MacMillan Bloedel his whole career, starting in the woods and living at Franklin Camp, later he transferred to China Creek booming grounds and really enjoyed his time as a tugboat operator and he then started working on the dryland sort on the log shovel until he retired in 1997.

Dad loved the outdoors, including moose hunting with his son, son-in-law and friends, spending time on the Alberni Inlet and especially in Kildonan at the float cabin he built and of course salmon fishing.  Dad had the most incredible vegetable garden in which he spent as much time as possible in and he won many ribbons, awards and even his name on a trophy for his impressive vegetable entries at the Alberni Fall Fair.

When the kids were growing up the annual summer camping trip for the family was to Penticton; with his best friend Jack Mackenzie and his family.  Two weeks would be spent relaxing and sunning at Skaha Beach.  Dad really loved the sun and people would always comment to his children that when they drove by his house on River Road they saw Dad in the yard laying in the sun.

Dad would give a friend the shirt off his back with no questions asked, he was also tough as nails and stubborn as hell.

Dad liked to see people having fun, especially his family.  One thing he loved to do was host his annual Christmas Eve dinner and celebration for his children and grandchildren.  Dad went all out on Christmas Eve and when his partner Deb joined the family, she added to the food and fun, making everything extra special for everyone.  So many happy and funny memories.

In Dad’s own words, “I enjoyed my life, it was an incredible journey”.

Dad will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by us all.  As per Dad’s wishes, no service will be held.
