Serge Dupuis Obituary

SERGE JACQUES DUPUIS
May 18, 1955 – July 5, 2021

Serge passed away peacefully Monday, July 5 in Nanaimo at the age of 66. Born in Sudbury, Ontario, Serge grew up in St. Charles, Ontario, oldest brother to siblings Gaston, Lise, Yves and Jocelyne. In his early years Serge developed a passion for fishing, a love of music, and a mechanical ability that enabled him to tackle anything mechanical -- he was an extraordinary ‘fix-it’ guy.

His early career in underground mining brought him west, first to Uranium City in Saskatchewan, and eventually to Whitehorse, Yukon where he spent some years placer mining for gold. In Whitehorse he met the love of his life, wife Carol. They eventually moved to Vancouver where Serge retrained as an Electronic Technician. Employment in the telecom industry led to jobs in Nanaimo, Salmon Arm, and Powell River. But the coastal life drew him back to Nanaimo, where the fishing was better!

Serge loved motorcycles, and his joy in later years was owning and riding a variety of motorcycles. An accomplished mechanic, Serge did all his own maintenance and repair work. The mild winters on Vancouver Island meant he could ride almost year round, and he valued every day he could get out for a ride. Serge loved music, often learning new songs to play on his guitar. He loved the rock and roll classics of his early youth but embraced the new artists and their talent.

His electronic training served him well as he loved to ‘improve’ the computers in his home, after first taking them apart to see how they worked! Serge loved to cook, and some of his happiest memories were cooking up pan fulls of walleye for his family to enjoy, following a day of fishing on the Kootenay River. Living on the coast in Nanaimo, Serge fished regularly for years, owing a variety of powerboats and loving the time spent out on the water.

Serge embraced everything he enjoyed in life. His was a life well lived, full of love for family, kindness to friends and strangers, a passion for politics, and a love of food to nourish body and soul.

He is survived by his loving family: wife Carol, mother Shirley, brother Yves and sister Jocelyne (Nancy), sisters-in-law Judy (Bob), Cindy (Henry).

To my husband Serge -  “I love you to the moon and back, I miss you beyond the stars” – Carol Dupuis
