Van Horne, Mary Patricia

Mary Patricia (Pat) Van Horne passed away peacefully at Fir Park Village on August 17, 2017 at 86 years of age.

Pat was predeceased by her loving husband Basil and is survived by her four sons: Gary (Darla), Glen (Pam), David (Michael), and Collin (Cathie); nine grandchildren: Kayln, Kim, Ryan, Rachel, Jordan, Matthew, Beth, Laura and Kate and 24 great-grandchildren.

Born to Peter and Jessie Sharkey in Coombs, BC, Pat grew up in Coombs before moving to Port Alberni with Basil to raise their family.  Like her mother and grandmother before her, Pat was an avid and talented knitter.  She enjoyed dancing, softball, cards and scrabble.  She served as the social convener for the Alberni Farmer’s Institute for several years.  She and Basil were vendors at the Port Alberni Farmer’s Market for many years.

Pat loved to cook.  We will remember dinner with pie for dessert.  She loved ice cream and laughter.  She loved her family and her family loved her.

At Pat’s request a memorial service will be held Saturday, August 26, 2017  - 11:00 AM - at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 4816 Compton Road, Port Alberni, with Bishop Larry Johannessen conducting.

Cremation has taken place.  Interment will be at the Qualicum Beach Cemetery.
