Gwendoline "Mary" RASKER Obituary

In her 90th year, Mary passed away peacefully at Trillium Lodge, Parksville, BC. She is survived by her children, Chris (Jane) Ibbott and Julie Ibbott, both of Oshawa, ON and Lisa (Lewis) Paine of Parksville, BC; sister, Doreen Gibson of Victoria, BC. Pre-deceased by her son, Stephen; first husband, Stanley, and her husband of 50 years, Albert. Mary was blessed with 8 grandchildren (Matthew, James, Elizabeth, Jennifer, Adriana, Martina, Benjamin and Joseph) and 9 great-grandchildren.

Mary was born in North Battleford, SK then moved as a young girl to Kettering, England.  She recently described her life in three blocks of 30 years – first in England, second in Ontario and then retiring in Qualicum Beach, living her dream of residing on an island. At their house by the sea, she became an avid gardener, loving the long growing season which produced a yard full of roses. During Mary’s active years, you could often see her at the Ravensong Aquatic Centre with her many good friends.

Mary and Albert embraced retirement by exploring the outdoors with their dog, Shannon, travelled extensively to New Zealand, Costa Rica and took many cruises.  The family wishes to thank the kind and compassionate staff of Trillium Lodge for their undying care for Mary during her stay there. In keeping with Mary’s wishes, no services will be held.  Those wanting to honour her memory may do so by making a donation to the BCSPCA www.spca.bc.ca
