It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved father Hugh Glencorse (Glen) Shields, who passed away peacefully with family at his side on June 23, 2019.
Glen leaves behind sister Nessie, sons Gary (Cheryl), Eric, daughter Lisa (Willie), ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren, along with other extended family and dear friends.
He is predeceased by spouse Louise (mother to Glen, Gary and Eric), Mary (mother to Lisa and Cindy), and eldest son Glen, grandson Matthew, and daughter Cindy.
Glen was born February 20, 1932 in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was 1949 when he moved to Canada, living in Cambridge, Ont., Fort McMurray and Parksville. His career as a high pressure welder took him from the east to west coast of the country and points in between, making many special and incredible friends along the way.
In his retirement years, Glen loved his well deserved time camping, fishing and volunteer time as a bingo caller. He will always remain the nucleus of the Surfside Automotive team where he made many lasting and loving relationships. His witty sense of humour and stories will never be forgotten.
We, his family would like to extend special thanks to everyone who gave comfort and care to our Dad during his courageous battle with cancer. Your love and support meant the world to him and to all of us.
Celebration of Life will be held at Yates Memorial Services, 1000 Allsbrook Road, Parksville, BC, Sunday July 7, 2019 at 1:00 PM with refreshments to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
