Jorgen NYHUUS Obituary

It is with the deepest sadness we share with you the sudden passing of a true gentleman and local 4x4 racer, John Nyhuus on Tuesday, May 7th, 2019. He was 69 years old. John was born on October 31st, 1949 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Along with his family he immigrated to Canada in 1953. Living a short time in Ontario and California before making Port Alberni their permanent, forever home. John grew up and lived most of his life in Beaver Creek. He was a skilled mechanic and logging truck driver.

John was predeceased by his parents, Aksel and Else and older brother, Pete. As well as his in-laws Lewis and Vi Royan. He is survived by his growing family and many great, long-time friends. John was a loving and devoted husband to Marilyn for 47 years. He was a gentle and dedicated father to Nancy (Jack) and Todd (Alicia). John was a living legend and “Papa John” to grandchildren Kyle (Brandy), Carmen (Tyler), Brendyn, Ryan, and sweet great-grandchildren Cooper, Wade and Emily. John leaves one brother Tom(Linda) and in-laws Rudi and Betty Van den Broek, Dennis and Pam Royan. Also mourning his passing his extended families, the 4x4 racers and the snowbird friends from Wellton, Arizona.

Dad was a motivated, intelligent man. He made a rich and fulfilling life for himself and all that knew him. He set expectations for himself and his loved ones to follow. Dad led by example and he brought out the best in all of us. Dad lived his fullest life having many varied adventures with Mom. Of course, anyone who knew him saw his greatest passion in life was 4x4 racing. He was a great sportsman and competitive racer all over Vancouver Island. With pride, he taught us all to drive and ensured the next 3 generations knew their way around a truck! He enjoyed this sport with his family for over 39 years.

Dad liked the outdoors, was a camper and had fun spending time with family and friends. Over the years he enjoyed holidays to places in Mexico, Fiji, Hawaii, California, Nevada and Arizona. He hit a few golf balls in his time, evidence shows at least one hole-in-one. Dad kept busy, always working on something. He took pride in his homes and he often helped those in need with various handy-man projects. Dad always put his family first, even at the very end, he died quickly and peacefully with his loved ones at his side.

A Celebration of Life will be held in John’s honour on Saturday July 20th at the Nyhuus residence.
