Joseph Klimes passed away peacefully on December 30th, 2018. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Florence “Flo” and is survived by his children, Jim (Dianne) of Calgary, Greg (Debbie) of Nanoose Bay, and Andy (Louise) of Courtenay; grandchildren, Angela, Sara and Heather; great-grandchildren, Edison, Calvin, Lochlan, Flora and Robyn.
Joe emigrated to Canada in 1949 from Pilsen, Czechoslovakia and attended the University of Toronto, where he studied mechanical engineering. He later moved his family to Vancouver Island after receiving employment with MacMillan Bloedel, Kelsey Bay Division. He eventually settled in Ladysmith where he worked at the Chemainus Sawmill until 1991. After retirement Joe’s interests included travels to Europe, hiking the mountains behind Ladysmith, and especially gardening where he was best known for his garlic and Early Girl tomatoes.
The family would like to send their deepest appreciation to Dr. Britton Foster of Ladysmith and the staff at Stanford Village, Parksville, for their compassionate care.
He will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
