Wesley Ray CHASE

Wesley Ray Chase (1945 - 2018)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Wes Chase, age 72, at West Coast General Hospital, Port Alberni, on July 9, 2018. 

Wes was born in Grandview, Manitoba on November 5, 1945, the fourth son of ten children.  He attended Bield and Roblin Schools.  He moved to Port Aberni in 1964 where he worked at Alberni Pacific Division for 41 1/2 years, retiring January 2007.

Wes played hockey for the Industrial League when he first arrived in Port Alberni.  Later, he played in a Dart League.  He took great joy and pleasure in maintaining his yard and flower baskets.  He always loved camping with his family when the children were younger and continued to do so.  His love for family was evident on his many trips to reunions in Alberta and Manitoba.  He enjoyed introducing new games to his relatives - such as the bean bag game.

Wes is lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Mary Ann; sons Daryl (Kari), Guy (Carly) and Brian (Aria); grandchildren Branden (Moriah), Alexa, Charlie & Maisey; Damian and Lunabella; and three great grandchildren Skylar, Talon, and Conner, all of Port Alberni. Siblings:  Gary (Lois) Chase of Arlington Beach, SK; Wayne Chase of Port Alberni, BC; Ken (Linda) Chase of Roblin, MB; Sharon (Les) Buckmaster of Allan, SK; Beryl (Murray) Mohr of Swan River, MB; Gloria (Earl) Belcourt of Cobble Hill, BC; Dean (Val) Chase of Barrhead, AB; Dale (Linda) Chase of Roblin, MB; and Byron (Joyce) Chase of Okotoks, AB; sister-in-law Wendy Chase, nephew Mark Chase, niece Sheryl Boire of Port Alberni; sister-in-law Rosemarie Featherstone (Barry) of High River, AB; brother-in-law David Williams (Maureen) of Aldersyde, AB; cousins George and Shirley Shiner and all their families.

Wes is predeceased by his parents Harold & Elsie Chase, parents-in-law Oliver & Beatrice Williams, two sons Kevin (1993) and Steven (2000), sister-in-law Mary Williams (2014), brother-in-law Oliver Williams (2016), niece Nedra Lynn Yurkowski (2014) and nephew Roy Buckmaster (2017).

The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and home-care nurses for his great care over the years.

A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Port Alberni from 1 to 4 p.m.
