Brooklyn Urquhart Obituary

With incredible sadness we announce that Brooklyn Patricia Klyne Urquhart passed away on December 9, 2023 at the early age of 18. To say that Brooklyn will be greatly missed by all who knew her is an understatement.  Brooklyn brought joy and magic to those who were her friends, family and classmates alike. Anyone who knew her was blessed to be touched by someone so special.

Her twin, Brodin Urquhart will especially miss his beloved sister; they were inseparable in utero and in life. They were so close and enjoyed many special times together.  Brooklyn and Brodin started Taekwondo together at an early age of five at Tri-City Taekwondo. At the age of ten, they attended Cascadia Martial Arts where both received their 3rd Dan Black Belt. They both were teachers at Cascadia Martial Arts and also founding members of the Cascadian High Performance Poomsae Team.

Throughout Covid, Brooklyn and Brodin continued to teach the many students at Cascadia Martial Arts through Face Time.  Brooklyn helped these children feel connected at a time when many felt alone.  She had a special way with the students and children.  She was an excellent instructor.

Brooklyn worked at Arrowsmith Golf Course for several years and was loved by the members.  She also worked at the Final Approach Restaurant.  She enjoyed her job there and felt connected to and supported by her coworkers. Her bright smile, strong work ethic and sense of humour were well received by all.

While at high school Brooklyn played basketball for many years and loved the sport.  She was a true team player respected by her teammates.  Her fierce play lifted team spirit at every practice and game she attended. She gave the sport her all as with everything Brooklyn did.

Brooklyn’s creative and imaginative side expressed itself in her art and theatre.  From a very young age, Brooklyn had a diverse artistic gift and it exploded when she was painting and drawing.  She received numerous awards and was selected to paint a bench along with many other artists, she used her imagination to design an out of space theme.  Brooklyn was creative and inventive and gifted in so many ways.

Brooklyn discovered the joy of theatre in her last year at high school when she auditioned and was accepted to participate in an adjudicated one act play.  She was awarded a special plaque for best supporting actor which sealed her love of acting. Brooklyn then went on to the theatre program at Vancouver Island University. During rehearsals and performances, Brooklyn brought her castmates together with her caring, supportive nature, and sense of humour. Brooklyn’s talent shone on stage, and she was a marvel to behold in any character she became.  Everything she did made one proud.

Brooklyn had the most magical, infectious laugh, and courage to show her spirit, both joyous and sorrowful. She was loved and admired for all these wonderful things that she was. This bright, beautiful loving girl is survived by her mom and dad, Brandi Klyne and Bruce Urquhart, her sister, Brigid Klyne Simpson, her brother, Brodin Urquhart, her aunt and uncle, Lisa and Steve St. Denis, and her grandparents, Wendy, and Bruce Chisholm.

The Service for Brooklyn will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2024, 2:00 – 4:00pm at Yates Memorial Services.  RSVP to Wendy Chisholm 250-228-8710 or wendyklyne@telus.net

You may have left this world, but you are not gone

And you may seem faraway, but we will always find you

In dreams and old letters, in stories and song

You may have left this world, but you did not leave us

You stayed in our hearts where you will forever live on
