It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing, peacefully in his sleep at home, of our beloved Dennis at the age 73.
Dennis is survived by his wife of fifty one years, Joan, their children Kevin (Deanna), Don (Wendy), Neil (Rebecca), Scott (Heather), grandchildren William, Sarah, Dillon, Morgan, Spencer, brothers Derek (Susan), Pard (Cheryl), Mark (Kathleen), sister in law and brother in law Lori and Andy Vanger and family. Also by several relatives, cousins, nephews, nieces and many dear friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Elizabeth Hogeweide.
Dennis was born and raised in Port Alberni, where he was a boy scout, troop leader and was in air cadets in his teens. After graduation he took the welding course at Nanaimo Vocational School. He worked at logging camps at Woss and Vernon Lakes for CAN-FOR, later he worked at Nanaimo Foundry for one year. He also worked for 36 years as a welder for MacMillan Bloedel Ltd. (Alberni Pacific Division) retiring at the age of 52. After retirement Dennis and Joan enjoyed many trips and cruises all over the world. He was an avid swimmer all his life and enjoyed reading, gardening, walking, motorcycling, RVing, and camping with his family and friends.
Dennis recently fought Non-Hodgkin lymphoma and was given two years cancer free previous to his passing.
He was the matriarch of the Hogeweide clan keeping everyone in touch and enjoying having lots of family gatherings. Dennis was proud of his wife and family. He always enjoyed the company of many friends. He will be dearly missed.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held 1-4pm, Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Yates Memorial Services, 1000 Allsbrook Road, Parksville, BC.
