Elaine Donnelly Obituary

Elaine’s long and courageous battle with cancer is over. She passed away peacefully at home on April 25, 2022, in Parksville, BC. Born in Regina Saskatchewan on November 19, 1940, she was married for 59 years and 8 months. She is lovingly remembered by her husband Mickey, her son Sean Donnelly (spouse Chantal Savoie) of Montreal, her daughter Nicholle Morrison (spouse Dave Morrison) of Calgary, her grandson Tristan Llewellyn of Toronto, two brothers Harvey Fox (spouse Sylvia) in Regina Nick Fox (spouse Sharon) in Calgary, a sister Joey Schoengut (spouse Greg) in Edmonton and their respective family members. Elaine was predeceased by her parents and a sister Marilyn Fox of Regina. She will be forever remembered by numerous nieces, nephew’s cousins, and the Donnelly extended family in the UK.

The Donnelly family extends thanks to family members and dear friends for their kind words, and assistance over the years, especially these past few weeks. Elaine appreciated their thoughts and prayers and is grateful for the care, and treatment provided by Dr. Steve Kulla and the dedicated nurses at the NRGH Chemotherapy Centre, the BC Cancer Agency of Victoria, Dr. V Szachnowska her Family Doctor and most recently the Island Health Palliative Care Home Team of Dr. Susan Hunter, Robyn Dunstan Palliative Care Coordinator, Tamara Judd RN Home Care Nursing and the numerous Home Support Workers of the Oceanside Health Centre.

Elaine loved to entertain. She would initiate social events with family and friends for drinks and appetizers or prepare grand meals everyone always enjoyed. She could turn small impromptu gatherings into special moments. Everyone wanted her recipes that she collected over the years, and she often gifted them a copy of her Cookbook or Christmas Stockings which she lovingly handmade. She enjoyed traveling with her husband visiting destinations in North America, Asia, and Europe. She loved to golf and socialize with friends over a drink of birdie juice and organized card games with friends always with a small wager. She administrated a kindergarten program, initiated a Brownies Group and an after-school Teen Club in her children’s community Junior High School in Calgary and volunteered for numerous organizations over the years. She worked as an administrative assistant in Regina for the Government of Saskatchewan Department of Education, various private companies in Oklahoma City, Calgary and Victoria and The BC Teachers Federation in Vancouver. She was the centre of the family; always looking for and planning events to bind us together.

The family will have a graveside remembrance at Yates Memorial Services in Parksville BC with immediate family and close friends. The date and time of this service will be provided later. Due to the simplicity of the service, Elaine would prefer that out-of-town family members and friends please consider a donation to the Cancer Society, Palliative Care or Hospice Society in their region in lieu of travelling to Vancouver Island.

We will love her forever and ever in our memories.
