Frank Scanlan Rosar

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we share the passing of Frank Rosar. On July 6th, 2021 Frank passed away quietly and peacefully a few hours after being admitted to the Nanaimo District Regional Hospital with the love of his life, Anne Marie, at his side. 

Frank is predeceased by his parents Frank and Eva Rosar of Arnprior, Ontario and his youngest sister Virginia. 

Frank leaves behind his wife of almost 54 years, Anne Marie (Hubbard) Rosar, Daughters Erin Marie Rosar of Calgary, Alberta and Leigh Anne Rosar of Toronto, Ontario.  Frank was proud grandfather to Matthew, Daniel, and Caleb Marx of Calgary, AB, and Laurel Brooksbank of Toronto, ON.  Sister Christine McLaughlin of Arnprior, Ontario and her husband Stewart, and their daughters  Stephanie and Lesley and their families.  Additionally, Frank was Brother-in-Law and Uncle to Anne Marie’s siblings and their children and grandchildren across Ontario.  

Frank was born in Toronto and raised primarily in Montreal, QB.  Frank attended Loyola University in Montreal and then completed his MBA at Western University in London, ON; he credited his time at school for lifelong friendships with Claude, Mark, Al, Mike and Carlos.   Frank would often share that he met Anne Marie when he and his friends were about to leave a nursing school dance, but he insisted he needed to have at least one dance!  AM accepted, and a beautiful life together began.  Frank had a lengthy and successful career with the Toronto Dominion Bank which eventually took the Rosar Family from Toronto, ON to Calgary, AB in 1988.   

Frank was passionate about learning; he was an avid reader and was constantly taking up new projects and hobbies such as flying both actual and model airplanes, driving motorcycles, collecting art and playing guitar.  Frank had a fantastic eye and delighted in finding and supporting artists of many genres.

A passion for art and architecture lead to his building of beautiful family homes in Orangeville, Calgary and Nanaimo, and a development project in Calgary which also fed his entrepreneurial spirit and pride.  Many happy memories were made in recent years with his good friend Aaron and tools in hand. 

Frank and Anne Marie were fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel extensively; Frank’s favorite city was Sydney, Australia, and he particularly loved Paris in addition to Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania. 

Frank raised his daughters to be fiercely independent and resisted gender roles long before it was trendy to do so; Erin and Leigh grew up using tools, driving tractors, and understanding the value of hard work and being able to support themselves.

Following his spinal cord injury in 2010, and subsequent challenges that followed it, Frank’s positive attitude and determination were an inspiration to many.  His kindness and generosity were felt by all who knew him; he was a loyal friend, sibling, father, and spouse who was always ready to help and share a laugh.  He was a true gentleman, and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family will be having a private mass and small family gathering as per Frank’s wishes.
