On Tuesday, March 16, 2021, George passed away at West Coast General Hospital with his family by his side. George leaves behind his daughter, Carie; son, Bill (Jenny); grandson, Cameron (Kiera); granddaughters, Reghan and Brynn. George’s young brother, Peter (Linda) and their sons, Daren, Rick, and Craig will also miss him very much. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Mildred Geddes.
George was born on November 22, 1938 in Vancouver to George and Mildred Geddes. He grew up living in logging camps at Camp #1 and Great Central Lake. After graduating from ADHS in 1956, George spent a year at UBC learning engineering and playing football. He moved back to the Valley and eventually got a job at the local pulp and paper mill where he remained for close to 40 years.
In 1965, George married Linda Tagseth (Christian) along side of his brother Peter who married Linda Smith in a double ring ceremony. The loves of his life Carie and Billy came along in 1966 and 1968.
Volunteering was a big part of George’s life. You might have met him driving bus for seniors from Fir Park and Echo Village or have worked with him at various BC Senior Games and the 2010 Olympics. He was also a member of Beaver Creek Fire Department, a youth soccer and baseball coach, Boy Scout Leader, and a member of the Tidesman Men’s Choir. He also put in countless hours to keep Mount Arrowsmith Ski Hill operating back in the 80’s.
His greatest love was being a father and grandfather and he never missed an event that they took part in.
A very special Thank You to all the doctors and nurses at West Coast General Hospital who took such great care of him.
He will be greatly missed by us all and never forgotten. A small family gathering will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour George’s memory may do so by making a donation in his name to Diabetes Canada.
