Judy passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit at Nanaimo Regional Hospital after a lengthy battle with COPD and recurring Pneumonia. Judy, predeceased by her younger sister Betty Dennis (nee Falconer) leaves behind her husband David Mudry, Sister Edie Carlson, Brother Leonard Douglas, Daughter Robin Martine, Son Daniel Mark and Grand daughter Sara Esther, and many other close friends and relatives.
Judy was born in Vancouver B.C. After multiple family moves her family settled in Richmond, B.C. where she met David Mudry whom she married in 1963. Judy’s travels recommenced as a result of Daves post graduation training and subsequent cross Canada postings with Environment Canada,
While residing in Summerside, PEI she gave birth to Robin in 1966, and later living in Gander, Newfoundland, gave birth to Daniel in 1968. Finally Judy and family moved to Ottawa, Ontaio in 1970 which became home base for 25 years.
While in Ottawa, Judy finished her high school education graduating a few years ahead of Robin and Danny. She then held several clerical positions with an Insurance Company in Ottawa where she participated in PC election campaign activities through her manager Bruce Hamiltons involvement who subsequently became Sherriff of Ottawa.
Judy then changed occupations and trained as a commercial vehicle operator first driving a local school bus and later a city bus for the Ottawa-Carleton Transportation Commissioner where she was awarded a safe driving citation.
Upon Dave’s retirement in 1996, Judy and Dave moved to Vancouver Island leaving their adult kids in Ottawa . Judy and Dave designed and built their retirement home on 5 acres in Errington, BC contracting out only the drywall and painting. In addition to their new home containing a large hobby room and workshop, it was surrounded by rockery and gardens. carved out by hand At the same time Judy participated in aquafit, played seniors club darts and joined the Parksville Legion.
Judy talents and interests were many and cooking was second nature to her. Her artistic hands and mind expressed in countless toll paintings, wood crafts, knitting, sewing and needle point was always admired by others. She often gave the finished product to those who expressed an interest in it.. Judy could do anything she put her mind toward and she did it expert fashion.
Judy loved Christmas, its food,, decorations and gift giving . Her door was always open. She maintained a tradition of providing a drop in Christmas breakfast for all neighbors, family and friends These events are often described by past day participants with great admiration.
On a one on one basis, Judy touched everyone She put others first and fought to the finish. She was truly one of a kind.
A celebration of Judy’s life will be held at Yates Memorial Services in Parksville at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
Judy loved flowers which are welcome but it is suggested that donations toward respiratory support agencies or lung research be considered as an alternative.
