John Glassford Obituary

John ROGER Glassford, 26 January 1942 – 17 November 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Glassford. Roger is predeceased by his wife, Allyson Glassford. Survived by his children, Clark Glassford (Shayla) and Alex Glassford (Nina) both of Vancouver BC, Lisa Dodd (Martin) of Calgary, his grandchildren Keaton, Makenna, Ella, Ceileigh, Sam, Mackenzie and Jake, his Brother Dick (Janice) and sister Beth Gilman (Andy), both of Parksville, BC

Roger was born in Victoria and raised in Vancouver, BC.  He was an officer in the Naval Reserve during his university years and maintained a close connection to the Royal Canadian Navy throughout his life. Roger’s primary career was as a yacht broker with Grand Yachts, a company he founded in Vancouver in the mid 70s. He shaped the business and influenced the industry up until his recent retirement. His reputation and innovation have set higher standards for today’s yacht broker business.

Roger’s other great passion was collectible cars.  His first car was a Model A Ford that he rebuilt in his teen years and he was a member of the Igniters car club. In his later years he was a member of the Seaside Cruisers Car Club in Qualicum Beach where he volunteered as the MC at the annual Father’s Day Show and Shine. He had a lifelong relationship with old cars and deep lasting, friendships with their owners.

Above all, Roger loved his family.  His wife Allyson (pre-deceased), his sons Clark (Shayla) and Alex (Nina), bonus daughter Lisa (Martin) and grandchildren Keaton, Makena, Ella, Ceileigh, Sam, Mackenzie and Jake meant everything to him.  He was also fortunate to have his brother Dick (Janice) and sister Beth (Andy) living close by and they shared many laughs and adventures together.

He will be missed by many.  However, he would want you all to know that he left this life with no regrets and lived in a world where he was always “Exceptionally Well!”

Celebration of Life to be held at a later date, In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in Roger’s name.
