John Henry Richardson

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our Dad, John Henry Richardson of Parksville, BC on August 28, 2021, in Nanaimo Seniors Centre.

John was born on January 5, 1933 in Invermere, BC to Frank Richardson and Winnifred Hillier and raised on their farm in Athalmer, BC.   It was there that John developed his passion for the outdoors.  John was an avid hiker and cross-country skier; he actively pursued his outdoor adventures for his entire life.

After graduation John joined the Canadian Air Force where he spent 10 years stationed at Canadian Air Force bases around the world.  It was during a training session at CFB Comox that he fell in love with Vancouver Island, his dream was to live on the island.  After leaving the air force John moved to Calgary where he lived for his entire working life, he retired at age 65 and the next day he moved to Comox, BC and ultimately settled in Parksville, BC.  We like to think that he explored every inch of the island and the surrounding islands. 

John is survived by his three daughters Debra Matcheski (Allan) of Didsbury, Alberta, Donna Tyler (Ross), Victoria, BC, and Cindy Simpson (Gord) of Port Alberni, BC and his four grandchildren, Jennifer Simpson, Janay Swailes, Neil Swailes and Andrew Russell.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
